Carving skis, like those from Rossignol and Blizzard, are designed for precision and speed on groomed terrain. With a narrow waist width of 65-80mm and a pronounced sidecut, these skis excel at making sharp, clean turns on hard snow. They typically feature a traditional camber profile, providing maximum edge contact for stability and control.
Frontside skis, such as the K2 Mindbender and Volkl Kendo, offer a slightly wider waist width of 80-90mm and incorporate more rocker in the tip. This design makes them versatile enough to handle both groomed runs and variable conditions like bumps and crud. While they may not carve as sharply as dedicated carving skis, frontside skis provide a balanced performance for skiers who enjoy a mix of on-piste and off-piste adventures.
